Setup¶
Installing Python¶
We will be using the Anaconda Python distribution in this course. Anaconda provides a large selection of third-party Python packages and makes sure that they work across platforms and with each other. You can download Anaconda from https://www.anaconda.com/products/individual . No paid for license or sign up is required. Choose the 64-bit version of the installer that fits your operating system.
Once you have installed Anaconda, open Anaconda Navigator and click on “Jupyter Notebook”. A browser window will open and display the “Jupyter Notebook” file selection view.
Congrats, you have installed Python.
Setting up for the course¶
The course requires multiple files - Juypter notebooks, data files, and so on. Download the zip file provided at
Now open up Juypter Notebooks and navigate to the newly unpacked folder. If you see a list of ipynb files named test.ipynb. A new tab should open in your browser, displaying the content of this file. From the toolbar of the notebook select “Cell>Run all”. If all cells in the sheet execute without error and the message “Everythin works!” is displayed below the last cell then you are ready to go. Otherwise, contact me with a screen shot of the error message.
